The Keizersgracht

The Keizersgracht is the second of three canals in the center of Amsterdam that form the belt of concentric semi-circles known as the grachtengordel. I took this photo in July 2003 from one of the bridges at the intersection of the Keizersgracht and the Reguliersgracht, very close to the famous seven bridges in Amsterdam (a spot where you can look around you and see seven bridges).

The Reguliersgracht

The Reguliersgracht is one of my favorite canals in Amsterdam. It runs from the Herengracht to the Lijnbaansgracht, and it’s located in the center of the city. It’s a smaller, residential canal, and it just has a nice quiet beauty that I love. I took this photo of the Reguliersgracht in July 2003.

Tram 7 in Amsterdam

Tram 7 travels across Amsterdam, from Flevopark to Slotermeer. It’s another one of the 16 tram lines that run throughout Amsterdam and it’s suburbs (see the previous post for tram 25). Public transportation in Amsterdam is affordable and convenient, although there is a bit controversy surrounding it now, because of a new payment system the transportation company is introducing this year. I took this picture of tram 7 by the Elandsgracht stop in December 2008.

Tram 25 in Amsterdam

Tram 25 travels north-south through Amsterdam, from the Passenger Terminal (just beyond Centraal Station) to President Kennedylaan. It’s one of 16 tram lines that run throughout Amsterdam and its suburbs. Public transportation is probably the second best way to get around the city (after biking), and the network of trams, buses and ferries can get you just about anywhere you need to go. I took this picture of tram 25 at Muntplein in June 2005.

More from the Gay Pride Parade

This is another photo I took in 2003 of the annual Gay Pride Parade in Amsterdam (please see the previous post for the first photo). The canal parade through Amsterdam is the highlight of Gay Pride Weekend, which also includes an outdoor street party on the Reguliersdwarstraat and parties at many local gay clubs. This year’s Gay Pride Weekend will be held Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 2, 2009, and the canal parade will be held in the afternoon on Saturday, August 1. I took this photo of a float in the canal parade in August 2003.
